Is 420 Weed’s Version Of Valentine’s Day?
This week’s blog post is from Herb Hightower’s column bringing together the 420 cannabis community through strain reviews, tips and tricks, and industry updates.
Valentine’s Day is sometimes called a Hallmark Holiday. That seems to carry a bad rap but really when you get to the bottom of that phrase, it just means it doesn’t represent our country’s history or isn’t a religious holiday like most of our other holidays. However, it’s significant enough for pretty much everyone to celebrate. It’s also great to have a day where you can show your affection for your loved ones but you don’t get the day off from work like say President’s Day. Sweets usually accompany Valentine’s Day but not the mass quantities you used to know and love like Halloween. All good things right? Well, as a major industry holiday nears, this begs the question, who do we have to buy dinner for to get 420 in line to be our next Hallmark Holiday?
Herb Hightower here and I’m just going to come out and say it, I love 420. Sure the massive amounts of cannabis consumption are the highlight but there are some things, even more so than Valentine’s Day, that make April 20th the best day to show your affection towards a pretty woman named Mary Jane. Let’s take a deeper look at what makes 420 so special.
Enjoying Cannabis Openly
420 is a special day when people just let down their guard a little and give the cannabis community some room to enjoy. Authorities tend to be more lenient if you are being responsible. The cannabis adverse of the world leave work early and clear the way for their more free-spirited counterparts. Retired types that, for whatever reason, drifted away from the cannabis community come back to gloriously celebrating this special day. Even pro-pot consumers who grew up when cannabis was more scrutinized and tend to be more secretive about it come out to play. 420 allows us to let down our guards and openly celebrate the cannabis plant and all its wonderful offerings.
Marijuana Peace, Love, and Happiness
Just like Valentine’s Day, there is love in the air. There is also smoke in the air but people are just happier on 420 and willing to show it. Any stroll through a 420 friendly major US city from about 3 pm to 6 pm shows you the love for cannabis is real. People are talkative, friendly, happy, in a great mood, generally just fun to be around, and even the weather is usually very Spring-like. If you haven’t experienced 420 in that type of setting you are missing out and need to plan to spend at least one April 20th holiday in the future around just that.
Can You Smoke Marijuana In Public?
While the local authorities let down their guard in many cities, as they should, cannabis consumption in public spaces is still illegal. We have to be smart when we consume or this wonderful holiday will never be elevated to “Hallmark Status.” If you are looking to be safe with your cannabis consumption, which for the future progression and legalization of this great plant we hope you are, you can find more information on where you can smoke in public for both Colorado here and Michigan here.
Please visit any of our eight dispensaries in Michigan and Colorado for the finest and most-awarded cannabis flower, topicals, and concentrate products for all your 420 needs.
